Beyond Positions

Two brothers argue over an orange. They agree to cut it in half. One walks away, eats the fruit and throws the peel away. The other goes home, cuts out the fruit, throws it in the bin and uses the peel to flavour a dessert.
By both focusing on their underlying interests, not just their position (wanting the whole orange), they could have reached a better deal.

By addressing the root interests instead of holding onto rigid demands, we can achieve results that provide value to everyone involved.
